Downstairs Home Page

To wander around downstairs, click on the index at the left.

Downstairs is brought you by the generosity of those upstairs (at NoeHill), who have made possible much, much more than this opportunity to be a content provider of, to quote the webmaster, "pages all black with words." For that matter, everything spiffy is taken care of by the webmaster. All I'm doing is spewing out them words and, since he taught me how, adding a few pics to brighten up those pages.

What's New Downstairs?

The previous Amsterdam tales are now up to date, as are the Journals, which I am now updating monthly. There are also some new recipes as well as Lobs and Volleys, which is coverage of some SAP Open tournaments. This is pro tennis from a gay green foodie perspective in case there's another one out there. I am attempting to post new entries in The Fall of Amsterdam while I'm there.

The Downstairs part of the site includes light-hearted recipes from the Downstairs kitchen. All too often I have read recipes and found them pitifully lacking in entertainment value. With these recipes, I hope to remedy that want.

Also Downstairs are the journals, broken down chronologically and containing mostly humorous essays, but with some, here and there, serious. Journal entries focus on my interests, which have included over the years Indo-European languages, literature, farmers' markets, fine food, home food, recreational eating, the Segway (in my alter ego as Matte Gray, Senior Segwayer), the Prius, Haworthias, pro tennis, and social issues in San Francisco.

My travelogues are in the NoeHill Travel pages. See Blue Highways Lite, Dutch in Three Weeks, Amsterdam by Segway, Amsterdam by Foot, Feeding Amsterdam, Amsterdam for Free, and coming in Autumn of 2008, The Fall of Amsterdam.

I normally insert links at the appropriate point in the text, but here I want to recommend the blogs of some friends: Arod in San Francisco, Some Assembly Required, and Queer Baby Making. In the interest of full disclosure and to obviate the necessity of waterboarding this information out of me, I will admit to conspiring with Jim by providing a little editorial input for Some Assembly Required. But he's the ringleader and put me up to it.
