Trigance is a typical medieval village perché. It sits on a rocky hillside overlooking a wide plateau with its protective castle just above. The castle was built by monks in the eleventh century, became home to a succession of feudal lords, was destroyed during the Revolution, and finally, in the 1960's, was rebuilt and converted into a hotel.

The town is quiet and sparsely populated in the winter, but perks up considerably during the summer tourist months. The colorful tiles of the bell tower of Saint Michel church are typical of the area.
