When the Main Street Historic Commercial District was added to the National Register, it contained thirty buildings on both sides of Main Street (California Highway 1). Twenty-one of these buildings contribute to the district's historic character. Because most of these building were built after a catastrophic fire in 1927, the appearance of the district is unusually cohesive.
