National Register #75000447
Ott's Assay Office
130 Main Street
Nevada City
Built 1855

Washoe miners in the Utah Territory were troubled by the blue muck that clogged their machinery. James J. Ott assayed a sample here, found it to be almost pure silver, and the Silver Rush to the fabulous Comstock Lode was on.

A Pelton wheel and a five-stamp mill are displayed in front of the Assay Office.
