At 264 square miles, Storey County has the smallest area of any Nevada county. However, when it was created in 1861,
booming Virginia City made it the most populous county in Nevada. The name honors Captain Edward Farris Storey,
killed in the Pyramid Lake Indian War of 1860 and buried in Virginia City.
