Landmark 37
Hallidie Building
130 Sutter Street Between Montgomery and Kearny
Financial District
Built 1917
Willis Polk designed the facade of the Hallidie Building as a glass curtain
wall, perhaps the first American use of a construction technique that would
dominate commercial architecture later in the century. According to architectural
historians, the building was occupied in either 1917 or 19181.
