Main House Built 1858
The Glen Oaks Ranch Historic District consists of 1430 acres containing five
Italianate and Craftsman buildings and two structures of historic significance.
Colonel Charles V. Stuart, who owned the ranch in 1858,
named it Glen Ellen after his wife, Ellen. When the nearby hamlet
adopted the name Glen Ellen, the Colonel changed his ranch to Glen Oaks.
According to the Glen Ellen Historical Society, this is one of the few 19th Century
vineyards that has eluded subdivision and conversion to nonagricultural uses. You can
learn more about the ranch and its structures at the society's
website.
Glen Oaks Ranch is a private property closed to the public.
