National Register #76000545
Jose Manuel Ramirez House
AKA W. T. Ellis House
AKA The Castle
220 5th Street
Marysville
Built 1851

Jose Manuel Ramirez built this Gothic Revival house for himself in 1851. Almost everything about the design and construction of his building is unique.

Mr. Ramirez built his house of brick which he plastered and scored to give the appearance of stone. The floors in the house are also brick, laid over sand in two layers. Local lore maintains that all lumber used in the construction is hardwood imported from Chile.
