Landmark 29
Engine Company No. 22 Firehouse
1348 10th Avenue Between Irving and Judah
Inner Sunset
Built 1898

Engine Company No. 22, originally named Chemical Engine No. 2, was housed in this two-story woodframe building designed by Charles R. Wilson to be the first firehouse in the Inner Sunset District. It was decommissioned in 1969 and sold at auction to the Oakes Children's Center.

When we took our photograph in June 2008, the Oakes Children's Center still occupied the old firehouse, but they were looking for a buyer. The broker is McGuire Real Estate, and the asking price is $1,495,000. According to the broker, the firehouse has a living area of approximately 6,250 square feet, twenty-foot ceilings, and the original fireman's pole.
